Alberta iela 11 (1908.)

Architect: Eižens Laube

Apartment house – one of the masterpieces of National Romanticism by architect Eižens Laube. The finish of its sparingly noble, though strongly articulated façade manifests theoretical cognitions of E.Laube on the use of building materials. The following materials are used - travertine, plaster of different textures, wood and other natural materials. A motif of the sun adorning the bay windows is made of copper strips on the background of natural Thuringian slate surface. Several modest ornaments of ethnographic origin that adorn the entrance portal are transformed into generalised rounded and figurative patterns characteristic of the Art Nouveau, according to personal creative manner of E. Laube. Darkish grey colour of the finish is characteristic of the buildings of National Romanticism. Such compositional scheme of the finish was repeated by E. Laube also in the design of the apartment building at Aleksandra Čaka iela 83/85 (1909).
